Original Research, A1

Zimov F, Polat A, Saha B.

Sci. J. Mech. Ind. Eng., 1(1): 01-04, 2012.

ABSTRACT: To date usıng of the adhesively bonded joints are increased in aerospace and automotive industries. In this short review the effect of using patterns on the surface of fastened part on strength of the adhesive joint are examined. The adhesive samples are tested on the condition of statically and fatigue loads. The patterns are created by grooving the surface of sample. Grooving patterns orientation is changed from 0 to 90 ̊. For each orientation degree, results of the tests are compared with the test results of the non-treated sample. The results of this review shows creation of grooves on the surface of the fastened sample increase the strength of adhesion.

Evaluation of mechanical, thermal and electrical properties of graphite base nanocomposites

Original Research, A2

Solomon T, Joeva R, Rodzina S.

Sci. J. Mech. Ind. Eng., 1(1): 05-08, 2012.

ABSTRACT: The postulate for lightweight, good performance and high mechanical strength, thermal stable and electrical conductor materials for usage in military, aerospace and electronics device is ever increasing in both industrial and transportation sectors. High performance graphite nanocomposites require the use of advanced bipolar plates with high electrical conductivity and good mechanical strength. This can be achieved by using high performance polymer composites reinforced with graphite platelet. Expanded graphite (EG) and graphite nanoplatelets having large aspect ratio, high electrical and thermal conductivity. This research presents a short review for the mechanical, thermal and electrical properties of graphite nanocomposites designed for using in high performance industries. From this research, it is concluded addition of a small fraction of graphite nanoplatelet to polymer resins improve the mechanical properties, thermal and electrical conductivity of manufactured composites.

, 1(1): 09-11, 2012.

ABSTRACT: In this study the effect of filling of clay nanoparticle in the polymer base composite and the intercalation, exfoliation of these nano particle has been reviewed. Furthermore the process of these phenomena has been looked back. The intercalation is a state that is introduction of exfoliation. It is concluded that completed exfoliation of silicate layers is the fundamental to reaching polymer/clay nanocomposites that perform well.

A Ringed Contact Friction and Boundary Lubrication Test instrument design

Original Research, A4

Rahman A. and Memedov B.
Sci. J. Mech. Ind. Eng., 1(1): 12-14, 2012.

ABSTRACT: A simple, inexpensive, easy to use, and very accurate annular contact friction and boundary lubrication tester is described. Data are presented to show excellent reproducibility and extremely low experimental scatter. The system allows the accurate simultaneous measurement of normal load, friction force, ambient fluid temperature, and mean surface contact temperature. Analyses are presented, which are applicable to other testers in addition to the present one, for determining the true mean surface contact temperature from a measured near surface temperature (determined with a thermocouple), and for calculating the viscous drag component of the measured friction (thereby allowing its separation). The tester is particularly well suited for simulating and studying the surface contact phenomena which arise in multiple disc brakes and clutches.

Performance Improvement Priorities :Integrative Model of Organizational Excellence Model and Balanced   Scorecard Approach

Original Research, A5

Hoseini Nasab H., Bagheri F., Esfahani M J.
Sci. J. Mech. Ind. Eng., 1(1): 15-23, 2012.

ABSTRACT: Due to increase in the strategic and quality management programs in organizations, the need for a comprehensive methodology of project management and organizational performance improvement becomes quite obvious. Considering the importance of improvement, the purpose of this paper is to prioritize improvement projects of X company. A framework has been considered for prioritization. First of all, a self-assessment, with the EFQM model, is used in the company. After that, the company's mission and goals are developed. Using matrix SWOT the strategy of the X company is written. The developed strategies are divided into four perspectives of the balanced scorecard. Then, the relationship of the four perspectives of the balanced scorecard and results of self-assessment are scored by using QFD matrix. Finally, the strategies are ranked using TOPSIS method, and priorities for improvement are identified. Finally, suggestions for managers and researchers are discussed.

A New Method for Solving the Generalized Interval-Valued Fuzzy Numbers Linear Programming Problems

Original Research, A6

Mahmoodirad A., Hassasi H., Molla-Alizadeh-Zavardehi S., Esfahani M. J.
Sci. J. Mech. Ind. Eng., 1(1): 24-28, 2012.

ABSTRACT: In this paper, we concentrate on linear programming problems in which the cost vector, the technological coefficients and the right-hand side are generalized interval-valued trapezoidal fuzzy numbers. To the best of our knowledge, till now there is no method described in the literature to find the optimal solution of the linear programming problems with generalized interval-valued trapezoidal fuzzy numbers. We apply the signed distance for defuzzification of this problem. The crisp problem obtained after the defuzzification can be solved by the linear programming methods. Finally, we give an illustrative example and its numerical solutions.

Ranking Tehran Healthcare Centers based on Service Quality using Fuzzy Data Envelopment Analysis

Original Research, A7

Tabatabaei Mehrizi S.M.
Sci. J. Mech. Ind. Eng., 1(1): 29-35, 2012.

ABSTRACT: The customer is one of the most effective environmental factors in health services organizations. Experts of management hold that gaining the customer’s satisfaction is one of the main tasks and responsibilities of the management of health organization so that commitment to this goal is a prerequisite of success of the business. This is explained by the fact that quality of health and treatment services has to do with health and wellbeing of individuals and given the necessity to provide reliable and adequate medical care for the patient. The quality is of great importance in health care sector as the services deal with the life and wellbeing of people. Any organization needs to develop a specific system to measure its performance; such system helps the organization to make timely and proper decision when needed. Lack of specific functions in data envelopment analysis (DEA) ensures no prejudgment in the surveys of the institutes. Thus, DEA models, thanks to having fewer assumptions in the assessment process have undeniable advantages over other available models. After recognizing input indices (e.g. number of available physicians, number of referred patients to emergency ward and so on), some of the Tehran-based clinics were selected. These clinics were then ranked regarding the quality of their services using DEA.

The Measuring Efficiency in Data Envelopment Analysis with Genetic Algorithm

Original Research, A8

Taghaodi R., Esfahani M.J., Molla-Alizadeh-Zavardehi S., Mahmoodi Rad A.
Sci. J. Mech. Ind. Eng., 1(1): 36-39, 2012.

ABSTRACT: An important objective of Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is to evaluate the efficiency of decision making units (DMUs). In DEA models, To evaluate the relative efficiency of DMUs, for a large dataset with many inputs/outputs would need to have a long time with a huge computer. This paper considers Genetic Algorithm (GA) for measuring efficiency of DMUs in DEA. GA requirements for computer memory and CPU time are far less than that needed by conventional DEA methods and can therefore be a useful tool in measuring the efficiency of large datasets. Since the operators have important roles on the fitness of the algorithms, all the operators and parameters are calibrated by means of the Taguchi experimental design in order to improve their performances.
